Light motorcycles (Class II)

Light motorcycles of class II are two-, three-, or four-wheeled motor vehicles that do not exceed 45 km/h.

  • Motor vehicles that do not exceed 45 km/h.
  • Driver needs to be 15 years or older and have a type B licence (for normal cars) or AM licence.
  • Helmet is mandatory for driver and passenger.
  • Should only be driven on traffic lanes.
  • A child passenger of seven years of age or younger shall be seated in a special seat intended for that purpose.
  • A child older than seven has to be able to reach the foot support pedals or sit in a special seat as mentioned above.
  • Need to be registered and insured.

The driver

To drive a a light motocycle of class II the driver needs to 15 years or older and have a tybe B or AM licence.

Passengers

Passengers are not allowed unless the driver is 20 years of age or older. In such cases it is only permitted if the manufacturer confirms that the motocycle is made for passengers and the passenger must sit behind the driver. A child seven years of age or younger who is a passenger on the motorcycle shall be seated in a special seat intended for that purpose. A child older than seven has to be able to reach the foot support pedals, or be in a special seat as mentioned above.

Where can you ride?

Light motorcycle of class II should only be driven on traffic lanes, not sidewalks, walking paths for pedestrians or bicycle lanes.

Helmet use

A safety helmet is mandatory for all drivers and passengers of a light motorcycle of class II and the use of protective clothing.
