Amendments to the Act on Foreign Nationals Right to Work have entered into force
On July 8, 2026, amendments to Act No. 97/2002 on Foreign Nationals’ Right to Work entered into force.
The amendments include, among other things, that responsibility for processing and issuing temporary work permits under the Act will be transferred from the Directorate of Labour to the Directorate of Immigration. Unprocessed applications for temporary work permits submitted before the amendments shall be processed by the Directorate of Immigration.

In the coming days the Directorate of Labour will forward all unprocessed cases and correspondence related to work permit applications to the Directorate of Immigration. During this transfer, processing delays can be expected. All correspondence should be sent to the Directorate of Immigration at utl@utl.is.
